Birch Bay Quilters News
In Fall 2014 the Birch Bay Quilters delivered hand-stitched items to many needy organizations. On Tuesday mornings throughout the summer, the quilters gather together to work on these projects. Please scroll down to see their beautiful work!
Fabric donations are wanted and welcomed!
Thirty doggie beds were taken to the Humane Society in Bellingham. Another 20 of them were given to the sister of one of our residents to be taken to the dog park in Atascadero, California. Like everything else made by the group, they were made from scratch using available fabric scraps.
There were 14 lap blankets made in various sizes, from adult size to babies. Made with fleece, these beautiful blankets were crocheted on the edges. They were made by resident Hazel Rutherford and resident Marcia Slaton's daughter, Kathy Duggan. Kathy also helped find and donated fabric, and volunteered most of the crocheted work. The group is grateful for her help!
Thirty-two tote bags were made for children in foster care. They were made large enough to hold the children's belongings. The group also put a stuffed toy and assorted toiletries; i.e., small shampoos and conditioners, hand cream, tooth brushes and paste, etc., into many of the totes. Most of the fabric was either donated or recycled from other projects.
The beautiful quilt below was taken to a home for battered women, to be enjoyed by residents while they are there. Quilter Nikki Crisp volunteered her time to work on it. She has also quilted in the past for the group, including two for Wounded Warriors.
The homemade quilts below were being donated to Agape House and Lydia Place, both located in Bellingham.
